PVMS Behavior Escalation Response Protocol
As part of our continued commitment to maintaining a safe, calm, and supportive learning environment, we are implementing a new Behavioral Escalation Response Protocol. This protocol is designed to help staff respond consistently and thoughtfully when students experience moments of emotional distress, disruption, or dysregulation.
The goal of this process is to ensure that all students receive appropriate support while minimizing disruption to the classroom and allowing teachers to return to instruction as quickly as possible. The protocol outlines clear response steps based on the level of support a student may need, ranging from in-class problem solving and re-entry planning, to temporary support outside the classroom, and in more serious situations, parent/guardian contact for early dismissal.
In situations where a student is unable to safely continue their day at school, families may be contacted to bring their child home to reset and regroup. We ask families to partner with us by keeping the remainder of the day calm and structured, so that leaving school early is not experienced as a reward. This may include maintaining routines, limiting preferred activities, and helping children reflect on more appropriate choices for the future.
We believe that consistent school-home collaboration is one of the most effective ways to support student growth in self-regulation, responsibility, and emotional development. We expect that this protocol will feel similar to previously set expectations, but with a bit more depth and clearer outcomes. We appreciate your continued partnership and support as we introduce this new system.
