Children's Housepreschool and kindergarten 20 children per class with a Montessori trained teacher and an assistant
Our preschool classrooms, called Children's Houses by Maria Montessori, are classes of mixed age groupings that offer a stimulating and nurturing educational experience. In the first months, children are helped to separate from parents and to find their place socially in their new classroom. They are soothed by learning the routines and by making new friends and developing a trusting relationship with their teachers.
Generally children are ready for Children's House when they are 3 years old and have developed enough language skills to work successfully in the classroom. Occasionally children who are as young as 2.9 years old may join the class.
Our Montessori classrooms each have a full complement of Montessori materials. The classrooms are divided into four major learning areas: math, language, sensorial and everyday living. The activities are sequenced on the shelves in order of difficulty, with teachers available to demonstrate how each activity is used.
Montessori preschool classrooms are designed to be hands-on. Our classrooms are carefully prepared, calm and beautiful spaces for children. The Montessori approach encourages children to develop concentration and an attention to detail, which helps them throughout their lifetimes.
In our classrooms art, music, dance and drama activities are integrated into the classroom curriculum. The children have Spanish once a week in small groups with an experienced and lively Spanish teacher. The children go outside to play on our large playground on the edge of a wooded park.
