School Closing InformationPVMS will communicate any school closings or delayed openings in the following ways:
- an email will be sent to all families at the email address that we use for other announcements (please be sure to update us when you make changes)
- CURRENT EVENTS section of our website, the SCHOOL CLOSED notice will remain posted for the day
- WWLP - Channel 22 (also on www.wwlp.com)
- ABC 40/Fox 6
- CBS-3 (also on www.cbs3springfield.com)
- WHYN radio station 93.1
If you have not received an email regarding school closing, please check one other source, since on rare occasions the website goes down.
Regarding Snow Closings: Pioneer Valley Montessori School will survey the area schools' Snow Closings. Since families and teachers come from many districts, a judgment will be made based on snow conditions in surrounding areas (generally, Springfield, Ludlow, Wilbraham, E. Longmeadow, and Longmeadow)
We will hold school if it is safe and appropriate to do
so. When snowfall is ongoing, it is not possible to retain a plow truck
on standby to keep the driveway clear enough to provide safe access and egress, and also to keep the snow that is dumped from plows on Parker Street from blocking the entrance and exit on a regular basis. It also is
problematic for the parking lot and the walking areas, which we learned on the occasions when we did have school and other schools did not. So
while we try our best to remain open when possible, safety and accessibility are our primary concerns.
